Groove Meter
Drop an audio file. The page finds the onsets, estimates the tempo, then fits a grid to the beat and reports how far the swing sits from straight and how tightly the hits land on that grid.
The file is decoded and measured inside this page. It is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.

Groove index is the Hayterwave tools composite of beat regularity, pulse clarity and low band share. It is our own measure. It is not Spotify danceability and should never be compared to that number.
Swing ratio is the long half of the beat divided by the short half, from the off-beat hits. 1.00:1 is straight eighths, 2.00:1 is a triplet feel.
Timing tightness is 0 to 100 and measures the median distance of every onset from the nearest point of a fitted grid with two points per beat, the second point placed where the swing actually sits. Sixteenth note hits count as misses, so busy hat patterns score lower.
Tempo is searched from 70 to 200 bpm and can lock to double or half time on sparse material. The weights are a first guess, not calibrated against listener data. Audio is analysed at 22050 Hz mono.
